This article aims, through Reception Aesthetics, to discuss, problematize, and present some considerations about using the work The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Fingal O'Flaherty Wills Wilde in English Language Literature classes. Based on the constructs of Reception Aesthetics, this qualitative research sought, through the observation of some English Language Literature II classes of the Portuguese/English Literature course in a university unit in the interior of Goiás, to analyze the participation of the students and the teacher of the subject mentioned above. The intention was to present the work The Picture of Dorian Gray to the ten students of the course and motivate them to read and produce reception reports, which were used in this research in the data analysis part. Data generation took place in the second half of 2024. This study showed that Reception Aesthetics, applied in the classroom context, can significantly contribute to the motivation for reading works of English literature.
