Adoption is seen as an important milestone in defining maternity, especially in the midst of difficulties related to affection, and it also promotes the de-biologization of filiation and kinship relationships. The issue dealt with in this paper is not new, it is not exclusive to Brazil and it will certainly remain relevant for a long time to come. The so-called “Brazilian adoption” faithfully portrays the attempt to simplify the connection between the desired filiation and that which is experienced in practice. The research presented here will include a brief analysis and reflection on the importance and recognition of affection as a legal value. With this, the aim of this study is to highlight the need to ensure the fundamental rights of children and adolescents, explore the possible reasons behind the increase in demand for this type of adoption and, address the procedural and temporal challenges that make Brazilian adoption an irrevocable bond.
