THE USE OF CAPOEIRA IN UNIVERSITY EXTENSION ACTIVITIES.

Abstract

The text below is an account of an experience. It narrates and presents episodes that have transformed perspectives. It defends the importance of extension activities to bring the university closer to society. It reports on the actions that took place in an extension project at the university. In this extension action, capoeira was used as an educational tool to address and work on cultural, historical, and ethnic-racial relations. In technical terms, the methodology used is bibliographic interpretation and the description of educational activities. The problem is centered on structural racism. The object is capoeira and its capacity for change and identity reinforcement. As an Afro-Brazilian art-fight-dance, capoeira carries elements of the past that serve as guidance and overcoming the social drama based on prejudice. As an inclusive activity, it allows overcoming the identity crisis, creating or developing a sense of belonging.
