Abstract

This research seeks through a theoretical framework to verify the effectiveness of female gender quotas. Its general objective is to investigate the cause of the incoherent contrast between the representation of women parliamentarians in relation to the female electorate. Historically, society lives under a patriarchal matrix, which limits women's places of belonging. But despite all the barriers placed for the non-occupation of certain social spaces, little by little women are conquering. The specific objectives are divided as follows: to investigate the performance of the Brazilian quota policy, and to analyze the effectiveness of this measure in increasing female representation. The result is based on the assumption that the greater the number of women participating in the political debate, the more effective are the chances of building plural and representative spaces. When talking about fundamental rights, the resources destined to electoral campaigns and compliance with the gender quota in parties and campaigns need to be supervised.
