School against Aedes: pedagogical action at a college in Goiás southwest

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is known to be the transmitting agent of the viruses that cause yellow fever, chikungunya fever, Zica virus and, mainly, dengue. The control or eradication of this insect requires a collective effort and the effective collaboration of all segments of society. The public school is an important ally in this endeavor, since from the public health approach, students, in addition to having access to scientific knowledge about the dengue mosquito, can become multiplying agents in combating this vector in their community. Therefore, this work reports the development of the project “Diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti, awareness and information in the school environment”, carried out in a public school in the state network of the municipality of Goiás in Rio Verde, during 2017. This project aimed to inform and sensitize students about the importance of carrying out preventive actions against A. aegypti.
The activities developed were promising to promote teaching about the dengue mosquito, its viruses and preventive measures. They also favored student involvement throughout the project, reinforcing the need to develop and disseminate public health education in schools.
