Brazilian documentary: "A Leia da Água – Novo Código Florestal", directed by André Vilela D'Elia and produced by Fernando Mirelles, is a real cry for warning to the population, because it teaches, clarifies and brings awareness about the importance of forests for the preservation of water, soil and also for the production of food that needs pollinating action. It explains the relationship between the New Forest Code (Law 12.651/2012) and the Brazilian water crisis. It elucidates the changes promoted by the New Environmental Law, its reflections on the environment and the controversy about its elaboration and implementation. Director André D'Elia based his work on research and interviews with 37 people including environmentalists, ruralists, scientists, parliamentarians, lawyers and farmers. It also portrays concrete cases of environmental degradation and sustainable agricultural techniques that can reconcile the conservation and production interests of society. The film highlights the water crisis faced in Brazil in which politicians had the opportunity to change this situation, with the formulation of the New Forest Code, but contemplated only the needs of agribusiness, industry and livestock. The research was based on the assessment of specific legal provisions, doctrinal understandings, knowledge available on reliable websites, jurisprudence and scientific articles that specifically focused on the topic addressed.
